Handen April 22, 1935 ------ October 1, 2006 Mother of Joel, Robert and Eve, and grandmother to Jason Handen and Katie Handen-Llopis, friend to many, Joene Handen passed away October 1,2006 due to Pancreatic Cancer at age 71. She possessed a wonderful spirit that fostered many life-long friendships and close relationships with relatives. She loved her kids, friends, family, travel, fresh coffee, reading, the Sierra Club, volunteering, NPR and the politics of Bill Clinton. Joene traveled to China twice, Machu Pichu, The Galapagos Islands, the upper reaches of the Amazon River, Europe, Turkey, and Baja. She had a special love for the American southwest and traveled there extensively, including Canyon de Chelly, Guadalupe Canyon, Santa Fe and Havasupai Canyon. She once taught English in South Korea for six months. An RN for years at Riverside Community and County General, she went back to school so she could finish her working career as a school nurse. She then spent many happy years at Ina Arbuckle School in Rubidoux. “She Done Her Best” is what she always told us kids she wanted on her grave marker. She did do her best, always, and will be badly missed by all who knew her.
